What to Do When You Feel Like Giving Up on Your Jewelry Business

There are likely times when running your business gets extremely difficult.

You may run into valleys in your journey when you just feel like giving up. The fire’s gone out. You’re not getting the sales you want. You’re not excited about it like you used to be.

What should you do in those times? Should you throw in the towel and move on?

There may be a point at which it is time to move on in your life and put your business behind you. However, it may just be that you need to bring to mind your why – your reason and motivation for running your business.

Think of your business like a marathon, not a sprint. A runner in a marathon keeps enduring by focusing on the prize, on the goal.

If you keep your eyes ahead on the prize, rather than getting caught up in the day-to-day trials around you, that can provide motivation to continue when things get hard.

This is why you need to have a clear understanding of your why and keep your attention on that when you feel like giving up.

Why did you start your business? Why do you continue? What do you hope to accomplish?

Some common why‘s include:

  • Providing for your family
  • Financial freedom – the ability to purchase and do the things you want
  • Decision freedom – the ability to work from home, set your own hours, and be your own boss
  • Time freedom – the ability to free up your time so you can focus on other things
  • Impact – wanting to make a difference

Do any of these why‘s describe your reasons for running your business? Or maybe you have your own unique why, such as, “I want my son to be able to attend private school” or “I want to pay off my house” or “I’m a Christian wanting to serve God, and want to fund a missions trip.”

(Note that all of these specific why‘s could fit into one of the broader categories above.)

So have your why clear in your mind – maybe write it down somewhere that you can refer back to often.

And when you feel like giving up, remind yourself, and keeping looking forward.
