Why a Victim Mindset Is Harmful to Success

Do you find yourself playing the victim card? Saying or thinking things like:

  • “I don’t have as many opportunities as others.”
  • “I don’t get very many sales because people don’t like me.”
  • “Other people have it so much easier than I do.”
  • “I can’t be successful because of so-and-so.”

If you find yourself thinking any of those kinds of thoughts, you may want to consider whether you have what might be called a “victim mindset.”

Now, don’t take this the wrong way – A victim mindset is not necessarily thinking things that are false. It’s possible that you have had a hard life, or that you don’t have as many opportunities as others, or that others have it easier in general.

When it comes to your business, the primary problem with a victim mindset is not necessarily that what you are thinking is untrue. Rather, the problem with a victim mindset is that you are dwelling on things that, whether they are true or untrue, are not helpful toward your business’s success.

It does no good to dwell on and complain about things over which you have no control. That will just increase your feelings of frustration and helplessness.

If you want your business to succeed, you need to take your focus off of external things that may be hindering your success and take ownership of your life and your circumstances.

What is it that you can control? Your effort, your attitude, your hustle.

Whether or not you succeed is first and foremost up to no other person on Earth except for you.

Who reaps the benefits when you succeed? You. Who suffers the most when you don’t succeed? You.

So forget the blame game and take ownership of your success! Don’t let life “just happen” to you and do what you can on your end to make your success a reality. 🙂
