We’ve discussed the importance of knowing your why (the motivation behind your business), as well as several examples of different why‘s people may have, including:
- Providing for your family
- Having financial freedom
- Being your own boss
- Freeing up your time
- Making an impact
But once you’ve decided what the primary why is that drives your business, you don’t want to just leave it there. The clearer the vision you have for your why, the more likely it will be a powerful motivator for your to make your business successful.
So here are some tips to help you get crystal clear on your why.
- Once you have your general why in mind, ask yourself what the ultimate goal looks like, specifically.
- Set a certain income goal.
- Think about whether or not there’s a particular thing you’d like to purchase or do – for example, if “financial freedom” is your why, perhaps there’s a particular home remodel your house could use; or if “impact” is your why, maybe your goal is to adopt a child.
- Picture your life in 5 years and consider what you’d want it to look like.
- Remember that all of this is not to make you unhappy with your present life but simply to help you set some goals in order for your business to succeed – the grass is not always greener on the other side!
So what about you? Do you have some specific goals and aspirations for where you’d like your business to go? If you really want your business to be successful, try to get as clear of a why for your business as you can. Then put in the work necessary to get there!
