Why You Need to Know Your “Why” (If You Want to Succeed)

Whether you’re just starting out in your business or have been doing it for a while, if you’re serious about your business you’re probably always looking for ways to improve it or help it grow.

You may be asking questions like, “What are some tips and tricks to help me succeed? How can I get from A to B?”

However, before you get to all the how‘s, you need to establish your why‘s.

Why are you doing this business?

Why do you want your business to grow and succeed?

Your why is your motivation and the driving force behind your business.

The reason that knowing your why is so important is because you will run into times when things are not going well – when business is slow, when the fun seems to have been sucked out of it, when you get difficult customers.

When situations like these arise, you need a motivator beyond simply “I want to make money” or “I want a fun side gig” to keep pressing on.

Your Business Is a Marathon

Having a business is not a sprint; it is a marathon.

In a marathon, there is always the temptation to give up at the hardest points of the race. Runners resist this temptation by keeping their eyes on the prize rather than on their present struggles.

If you keep your eyes focused on what you’re after rather than on what’s going on all around you, you may be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Having a strong why will help you as you work late nights and early mornings, as you put up with dry spells of no sales, as you endure the frustration of missed opportunities.

So what is your why? We’ll discuss some more in upcoming posts about how to establish a strong why, but think about your motivations for starting and continuing your business. Do you need to dig a little deeper?
