How to Take Ownership Instead of Playing the Victim

Here’s a potential obstacle to your success in your business: a victim mentality.

This is the mindset that views everything as out of your control. Bad things happen to you and there’s nothing you can do about it.

But if you want to be successful in your business, you want to start taking ownership of your circumstances.

The following is from a video by James Pelton, founder and CEO of Mobile Text Alerts (content has been slightly edited):

So many people treat life like it is out of their control.

We kind of live in a society where we like to think of ourselves as the victim.

And you know what? That might be true. You might be a victim; you might have an unusually hard life or challenges that other people don’t have.

But “success” doesn’t care.

Complaining, even if it is true, doesn’t accomplish anything. It doesn’t help your circumstances.

It’s much better to focus on what you can control – your effort, your attitude, your hustle – and take control of your own success.

Most successful people didn’t come from great circumstances.

Most kids who grow up rich don’t end up being successful; they end up being spoiled.

So understand that your choices will help determine your success. …

Who does it most affect if you succeed or don’t succeed? You.

We can try to blame other people – we can blame our parents, or our upline, or the company, or our coaches.

But ultimately, if you want to be successful, you need to take ownership.
